AMAZON REGION

Bordering Brazil, Peru and Ecuador we find the region named 'Amazonia'. Despite being almost a third of the Colombian territory, there are only a few inhabitants. Most of them indigenous, from which the Tikuna and Tukano are the most numerous. But there are many other smaller ethnic groups, and most retain their own traditional culture and language. For many centuries, the indigenous people have lived in harmony with nature, drawing from it all the wisdom and mysticism that surrounds the rainforest. Therefore, traveling through the Amazon region is like entering a different world, a world where you will find a very strong and deep relationship between Mother Nature and its inhabitants. You can visit the Amazon in many different ways. For a first introduction and experience you could travel to Leticia and surroundings, where you find good infrastructure, some good ecolodges, and guides for day trips in the jungle. For more adventurous travelers you can visit communities deeper in the jungle, for example in the departments of Vaupes, Caqueta, or parts of Putumayo. Highlights such as Araracuara with the Devil's Canyon, the mythical Apaporis River, or remote jungle treks with visits to caves, tepuis and jungle streams full of waterfalls, are all possible. To reach these remote territories, we use combinations of small Cessna planes, long river trips and jungle treks. It's like signing up for an adventure; an unforgettable experience. Add to this the interaction with the communities, the traditional indigenous cultures, and the expeditions through the dense jungle and you have an experience that is hard to beat.
