The Pacific is much more than Nuquí and Bahía Solano. Of course, these coastal towns and their surroundings are definitely a highlight, and a must-see when you want to experience the Pacific for the first time. Another must-see is the Utria National Park, located between the above mentioned coastal towns. Gorgona Island is not only a must-see if you like flora and fauna, but also if you like diving. Finally, the highlight of the Pacific coast is the humpback whale season, between June/July and October/November, when they can be spotted every day.
Gorgona is a small island just a couple of hours away by boat from Buenaventura or Guapi. In the past it was used as a prison, but nowadays it’s a beautiful destination for tourists, especially if you like to combine the Pacific with flora and fauna activities. It’s also one of the best spots for scuba diving in the Pacific.
Every year, between the months of June/July and October/November, it’s the season of the humpback whales. Visiting the Pacific during these months is an absolute highlight, as you can not only spot them out of your hammock at the ecolodge, but also during the special boat trips, to get closer to these amazing mammals.
The region of the Pacific, and especially parts of the Chocó jungle, are considered among the most biodiverse areas of the planet. If you are a nature lover, interested in the flora and fauna, the Pacific will definitely offer you a lot of highlights to include in your Colombia stay.
