The Pacific coast is the other coast of Colombia. Less visited and more difficult to access, but certainly worth a visit. In the department of Chocó, one of the rainiest regions in the world, there are many interesting places to stay in nice ecolodges, basic accommodations or homestays with local people. Bahía Solano, El Valle, Nuquí and Parque Utria are just a few examples of what you can visit. Here you can enjoy splendid unspoiled beaches, walk through the jungle and watch whales and dolphins passing by very close to the beaches. The humpback whale season runs from June/July to October/November, another good reason to visit the region. As the beaches are transitioned almost directly into jungle, it is the perfect place for nature lovers. The region is famous for its great variety of flora and fauna, with many species of frogs, butterflies and snakes. Other activities of interest to tourists in the region include sea fishing, scuba diving and surfing. Further down in Chocó, other interesting places such as Bahía Málaga, the Sanquianga National Natural Park and Tumaco could be of special interest to experienced travelers. Of course, not to be forgotten are the islands of Gorgona and Malpelo, both outstanding places for deep sea divers.
