We have never made arrangements this extensively through a travel agent. We were very pleased with what DE UNA did for us. The trip was planned perfectly.

Nuqui - ecolodge

On the Colombian Pacific coast you can find the little village Nuqui. The region is mainly inhabited by big and strong afro-Colombians. They came to this exotic destination around 4 generations ago, which at that time was the area of the Emberá Indians.

At around 35 minutes in a boat south from Nuqui lies the ecolodge El Cantil. The cabañas and the restaurant, all with view on the sea, with their back to the dense rainforest with many crystal clear streams. If you like peace and tranquility this is the perfect destination. Here the days of the week have no name and nights are filled the sounds of the sea and the jungle.

An alternative is to stay at the Posada Ecoturistico Rio & Mar which is run by a local family close to the bay of El Cantil. The local family will happily introduce you to the local culinary dishes and besides that they gladly show you around in the area.

Every year from June to October is whale season and everyday from the ecolodge you can see the whales swimming in the bay. Who ever had the experience to see these gigantic mammals up close and personal in the wild can tell you that it is an experience you will never forget. The whales come from the Antartica looking for warm currents to give birth to their young. After two to three months the little whales are strong enough for the long trip back to the south. Take your camera and make unforgettable pictures.

Beside the whale season is Nuqui also a great destination for (wave) surfers, diving, nature lovers and even biologists come to Nuqui for the rich diversity in flora & fauna.

Important: To visit Nuqui you are obligated to have a yellow fever vaccination. The area is also one of the rainiest areas in the world, so wrap your luggage in plastic bags in your backpack or suitcase. Pack clothes for a warm and humid climate and travel as light as possible. On the flights to Nuqui there is a luggage maximum of 10 kilo per person. We would recommend you to travel with a backpack, (big) suitcases are not recommendable. We also advise you to bring a flash light, as El Cantil is an ecolodge there is only electricity for a limited amount of hours per day.

DE UNA offers packages to the ecolodge El Cantil and the Posada Ecoturistico Rio & Mar starting with 4 days /3 nights. From Buenaventura it is possible to travel by boat over sea to Nuqui (about 20 hours) but that is a difficult and tricky way to get there. On request everything is possible but overall we offer these packages with national flights for the obvious reasons. If you want to book one of these packages please keep in mind what day you want to go there and how long you want to stay as the flights to Nuqui don´t go every day. Plan your ticket well especially if you are flying with a connection through Medellin and/or Quibdo.
