National Park Tayrona

National Park Tayrona is located only 45 minutes to the east of Santa Marta. Here you can find the most beautiful beaches of the Caribbean coast. It is not the typical white sand beach with palms, it is a bit rougher with enormous waves, gigantic rocks and that all with a tropical jungle on the background. Besides the beaches Tayrona is wonderful destination for people that are looking for flora and fauna. Big parts of the park are impenetrable due to the dense vegetation and steep hills but there are many walking paths to enjoy the tropical jungle.

Park Tayrona is named after the former inhabitants of this area, the Tayrona Indian. In the park you can find many archaeological places and ruins. The most famous and visited one is ‘Pueblito’, these ruins are located a sturdy walk and climb away from the beach El Cabo de San Juan or from the village Calebazo.

DE UNA offers 2 packages where you can stay in cabañas (cabins).
There is also the possibility to spend the night in hammocks or in tents if a lesser priced option is preferred.

In the first package we will stay in the most touristic part of Tayrona, at the sectors Arrecifes and Cañaveral. Here you can stay in comfortable cabañas or in the luxurious Ecohabs with a great view on the ocean.

The second package goes to a lesser visited area: Playa Brava. To get to this location we first have to walk a great bit through the park and the cabañas are quite basic. The area itself is absolutely amazing and there are not that many tourists. If you like a good walk in a beautiful surrounding and don’t care too much about comfort than this package is a great alternative. Further more Playa Brava is managed by Kogi Indians and if you are interested in their culture and traditions than this is the perfect way to get into contact with this civilization.

Tayrona is a package that is easily combined with other destinations like Cartagena and Ciudad Perdida, but also with destinations like Taironaka and Cabo de la Vela.

Important:
for a visit to park Tayrona it is necessary to be vaccinated against yellow fever and you need to be able to show your card. Travel as light as possible preferable with a day or backpack, especially when you will be staying at the accommodation of Arrecifes or Playa Brava as the walking path is not suitable for suitcases with wheels. If for whatever reason you are traveling with suitcases or bags that are difficult to carry than you can rent a horse or a donkey to carry the luggage for you. It is not safe to swim at all beaches as there is a very strong undercurrents, keep this in mind when going for a swim. If you are traveling in high season the cabañas in Arrecifes and the ecohabs are sold out very quickly and during that time they charge a higher rate.
